2-Methyltetrahydrofuran
2-Methyltetrahydrofuran (MeTHF) is a green solvent used in the pharmaceutical industry in organometallic reactions and as an extraction solvent. It is a green and less toxic alternative for Tetrahydofuran and has multiple superior properties. Next to THF it can also replace other solvents such as DCM. It also has potential in alternative fuels.
Applications
MeTHF in practice
MeTHF’s main application is to replace Tetrahydrofuran (THF) in solvent applications. MeTHF is a green alternative, is less toxic and has multiple performance advantages compared to THF. The higher boiling point and azeotrope with water gives econominc benefits in the use as a solvent in many applications. In Grignard reactions to manufacture API’s higher yiels can be achieved as an additional benefit over traditional solvents.
